Coming from the desert of Rajasthan in northern India , Musafir presents distinctly Indian dances, costumes, rhythms and body movements in a visually and aurally rich and dazzling performance. Their music is a mixture of Indian folk and classical traditions. Just as the Gypsy people have traveled the length and breadth of the earth, Musafir hopes to bring love and peace to the hearts of audiences round the world.
Beiguan (or “Pak-kuan”), the musical treasure of traditional Taiwanese society, has now been transformed into an eye-opening production combining modern theatre, music, dance, and costumes. “Pak-Kuan Encounter” proves that new ideas can be represented in such an old art form. The artists hope the renewed energy radiated by the show will inspire more young people to join the effort to preserve and continue traditional Taiwanese arts.
Since its establishment in 1983, Han Tang Yuefu Ensemble has dedicated itself to reviving the graceful tradition of Nanguan music. It has performed at several major art festivals and shared the beauty of Chinese classic music with audiences around the world. In “Autumn Night Songs,” performers dressed in ornate traditional costumes pass lightly across the stage, acting out classical scenes from song, to the accompaniment of five string and woodwind musicians, leading the audience back to days gone by, where they may savor the leisurely lives of ancient intellectuals, reflected in the poetry of an autumn night.
